GreatCircle Studios, a Tampa Web design company, offers a wide range of Web site design services to fit any company’s needs and budget. With our unique audience-driven design approach we capture your intended audience, create a unique design for your company, and produce a Web site which produces real tangible results.
With that said, what is the purpose of your company site? This seems like such an easy and obvious question, however, many businesses fail to answer it . . . or even ask it! We believe the answer is:
A WEBSITE’S PURPOSE IS TO SERVE WELL IT’S MOST IMPORTANT AUDIENCES AND DRIVE THEM TO DO SOMETHING.
Any business will have many different audiences that might arrive at their site. Most businesses, however, have only a few KEY audiences that are the most important ones to reach and serve with their Web site.
Too often we see Web sites that have been designed to accommodate (not serve) every kind of person who might arrive at the site, regardless of that person’s relative importance to the business. Or, worse, we see a site that was designed to be something the people working in the business “liked the look of” with little consideration given to what might be best for the client or prospect!
Our approach to Web site design is to first understand your audiences. With that knowledge we then move through the design process to determine key homepage components, page navigation, visual design and all the rest. Decisions on all of these elements are based on ‘what would be best for this audience’? We call this “audience-driven” design.
Audience-Driven Web Site Design
With our Audience-Driven approach decisions about the visual design elements, page navigation and so on are made based on what would best communicate with and to your key audiences. This approach often arrives at answers that are not the same as what the business owners or manages might first think they want for the site.
As an example of applying this audience-centric approach let’s take a hypothetical software vendor selling to the financial services industry. In this case let’s assume they have already determined that their target audience for the site is a financial consultant that (a) has been in business at least two years and/or (b) has at least 200 clients.
While this audience example is a very narrow one and many businesses might define their key audiences in broader terms, our process in either case is the same. Having identified the audience we then find out more information about them. Most of this we get from our client. We might also take a look at some sites in that industry and research competitor sites.
With that knowledge in hand we move forward with the design process including the visual design, determining the major elements for the homepage, the page structure and navigation and all the rest.
